Greetings Commander!

The Earth Directorate is happy to announce the release of Patch 1.2.0.0 to all citizens of Arcadia. This update addresses numerous bug fixes that you brought to our attention and much more! As always, we want to thank you all for your support and reporting these issues to us. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you run into any issues, please reach out to us at via our Issue Tracker and our team will work with you to investigate it.

1.2.0.0 Patch Notes

New Features:

Dangerous Enemies FROM BEYOND!

A mysterious new type of Rift has reportedly appeared, containing dangerous beasts said to be aggressive, powerful, and immune to many types of attacks. They can be found in Paradise Island, Golden Ridge, Cloister, and Praetor. Visit the newly-built Terminals at the landing pad in each of the four listed regions for more info.

Customizable Gameplay Options

A fifth Difficulty Option is now available, “Custom.” Use these gameplay options to customize your game experience in new and unusual ways. Activate “Companion Permadeath” and try to save them before they perish forever! Try a “zero bits” run where buying and selling are impossible! Force yourself to a “Single Loadout” where you’re limited by what you can wear and hold! Or try to be the “Hero of Earth,” where death means your game is permanently over!

Photo Mode

You can now clear the HUD and take photographs of the incredible art in The Outer Worlds 2 via the new Photo Mode option, available from the pause menu. Combine it with the “Wait” menu option to find the perfect time of day to illuminate your Commander, your Companions, or the Arcadian landscape.

Appearance Editor

A new mirror in the Captain’s Quarters on the Incognito now allows you to update the appearance of your Commander whenever you like. Change your physical appearance including hairstyle, tattoos, piercings and prosthetics, while retaining your character’s actions and choices.

M.O.P.

The Mode of Outward Presentation allows you to change the look of your character’s currently equipped Armor or Helmet to match any Armor or Helmet in your inventory, without giving up its gameplay benefits. Got a particular look you love? Make it your M.O.P. and stroll around Arcadia with confidence.

Companion Outfits

Want to change your upgraded Companion’s outfit back to a previous look? Sliders have been added on the Companion information screen that will allow you to change the visuals for your Companions' Armor and Helmet while still retaining their current upgrades.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

You’ve already read all about the Rift creature bounties, appearance editor, photo mode, customizable gameplay options, and more in our recent 1.2 update, but there are a few narrative-focused additions and improvements that were included with that patch.

New & Improved Companion Conversations

Besides fixing issues where companion banters weren’t playing nearly often enough while the player was exploring or on the ship, we decided to write and record a few dozen more of them.

That’s right! If you pair your favorite companion characters, you’ll hear them continue to get to know each other better and their relationships.

Improved Audio Mix

Somewhere along the way, a nasty bug crept in where radio and loudspeakers would remain too loud in the background during conversations. We’re happy to report that this has been fixed and not only are all conversations improved, the ACS Undisputed Claim is not “just obnoxious enough” again.

Community Reported Issues:

The game now displays an error message when available disk space at the drive root is low to prevent save failures.

Players can now turn in “The Case of the Mystery Rations” to Huguenard even if they completed “Fusing Fractured Forces” and did not speak to Huguenard first.

Fixed formula for calculating bribery costs in non-crime conversations. Costs should now be higher.

The double jump boots and quest schematics are now automatically granted to the player if they leave Spire Grove without looting Jackson Plum's corpse.

Inspecting the refugee's corpse during the "Arbitrary Measure" mission now correctly displays localized text in all languages.

Companion banters should now continue to trigger properly after saving/loading in a variety of circumstances.

Level Up Reminders will now remain hidden if disabled through settings, including after Fast Travel or Load.

The Dependent Flaw's bonus damage from Companions now correctly persists after loading a saved game.

Cursor is properly and fully disabled when swapping between MKB and Gamepad input devices.

Added Controller Pitch Multiplier which allows Controller Look Pitch (Y-axis, up/down) to scale relative to Look Turn (X-axis, left/right) for Controller Thumbstick(s).

The Vendor Screen will now display if a purchasable Recipe is known and will display the current count of stackable Items (grenades, consumables, resources, etc.) already in the Player's Inventory.

Updated a specific instance of Simplified Chinese localization to use gender-neutral pronouns instead of masculine pronouns.
<details>
Click to reveal spoilers

"The Last Voyage of the ACS Free Market" quest can now be completed even if multiple pieces of evidence are collected before the quest has started.

The game no longer freezes if the switch to kill Auntie is pulled while the player is still in combat (For example, via Niles' combat ability).
</details>

Major Issues and Crashes:

Activating Companion abilities shortly before triggering a forced conversation now allows the triggered conversation to occur.

Resolved a crash that occurred in the Rift Lab after extended periods of play due to an audio resource leak.

Addressed a crash on PS5 and PS5 Pro by improving memory management, especially when exiting the Companion Upgrade screen or Workbench.
<details>
Click to reveal spoilers

Door closes more reliably behind Willard when he hides in the back room when ambushing the Player during the quest "Full Measures".
</details>

Combat & Systems:

The "Cave Cleanup" quest now correctly updates after all Raptidons in the cave have been defeated.

Hold input audio will no longer infinitely loop when breakdown all junk action is complete

The Escape Suit now reliably dispenses a smoke bomb and grants camouflage when your health drops below 30%.

Skipping an audio log with the controller now properly stops the hold sound effect when the skip is complete.

The game now correctly handles and validates calendar time when loading older save files to prevent potential errors.

The Serial Killer perk description has been updated to more clearly explain when hearts are guaranteed to drop

Added Breakdown lists for Zyranium Armor and Gary Armor

Screen shake and sound effects from rifts no longer play while the rift is in stasis.

DLSS can now be updated directly from Nvidia, allowing users to receive the latest improvements without waiting for a game update.

Bribe options in certain conversations now always appear and display the correct amount, even if you don't have enough money.

Creatures, like the Gorvid or Raptidon, now use correct getup animations

Improved trigger volumes in Fairfield and other regions so that they fire more reliably

Waylaid Grenades achievement is more consistently progressable when shooting player thrown grenades.

Players will maintain ability to interact with objects even if the inhaler is used during Sneak Attack

Niles' Spotter Perk now reliably lowers NPC detection rates

The food icon in the HUD will be greyed out when the player is at full health.

Throwables now cost energy during TTD

Companions will now crouch while in elevators when the player is crouched or in stealth.

Some overpowered weapons (Bullet Blender, Rattler, Chainspark Cannon, Biggest Fan) have had their effectiveness reduced, to be more in line with other Unique weapons.

Cleo’s The Hunt has been made much more effective, to be more in line with other Unique weapons.

Animation:

Conversations triggered by proximity now reliably position the camera, preventing overly zoomed-in views of characters.

UI/UX:

Idle Camera Unavailable text will now wrap to present properly in other languages

Resolved rare instance where RPG Interactables did not properly give correct XP when the skill check had multiple requirements

Reverting graphics settings in the main menu now correctly restores previous values instead of applying changes.

Pending graphics settings, like Resolution changes, are now correctly preserved when switching and reverting Window Modes in the settings menu.

The blur effect that appeared in the crafting menu after successfully crafting an item has been removed.

Setting Descriptions no longer clear on Unhover, allowing manipulation of the Scroll Box for longer descriptions. Additionally, VSync and other graphics settings apply immediately on any change and no longer Revert if the player rejects Window Mode or Resolution changes later.

Inez will show a max of 2 Ability Charges as soon as she acquires the relevant Perk

The Player will only be referred to as Commander by default in Character Creation if a valid name isn't committed

Radio Station entries in the Wireless screen now show a Stop button while Selected/Active to indicate a click will deselect/disable the associated Station

When splitting a stack for Buying/Selling in the Vendor Menu, the Player's current Total Bits will also be displayed

Miscellaneous:

The version text in the Russian localization no longer displays an erroneous comma.

The game version in the top right corner now displays correctly without an unnecessary comma when the language is set to Polish.

Updated correct French translation text to some armor items in player inventory screen.

The Praetor Lightning Tower terminal now displays the correct exit option instead of placeholder text after recalibration is complete.

Turn-Based Mode Has Fully Come to Pillars of Eternity

Today we are happy to announce that the Turn-Based Mode for the original Pillars of Eternity is now live on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and the Xbox PC App.

Originally brought to the Pillars of Eternity in Deadfire, this new feature lets you experience Pillars 1 in a whole new way with combat fully reimagined around turn-based pacing and flexibility. Unlike Deadfire, however, you are able to change between the traditional Real-Time with Pause or Turn-Based Mode gameplay as you see fit during your playthrough, allowing even more control to play your way. For fans of turn-based mode in Pillars II we hope you find this addition to the original game both familiar and improved.

Speaking of improvements, Turn-Based Mode is not the only new addition to come along with this update. Along with a host of fixes to the new mode itself thanks to feedback from those who played it during the beta period, as well as a few bugs getting taken care of, we have also added the ability to change the main menu art by clicking on the base game or DLC icons.

The full list of updates can be found on our forum. We recognize that this is a very large feature and there could be more issues that were not found during the beta period. With that in mind, we will still be supporting this feature based on feedback from you all so please contact us via https://www.support.obsidian.net.

It has been one year since the launch of Avowed and the team is ending its post-launch roadmap with a substantial anniversary update built with both returning and new players in mind. This release delivers long-requested community features and a broad slate of quality-of-life improvements, including a fan driven feature to bring Avowed even closer to its Pillars of Eternity franchise roots. On top of that, Avowed is now available on PlayStation 5 opening the Living Lands for even more envoys to explore.

Let’s break down all of the big new additions that are coming to the game with this update.

New Playable Species

Headlining the anniversary update is a major expansion to character creation: three new playable species join the existing Humans and Elves.

Dwarves – The most well-traveled species in Eora, the stout dwarves are known for their great strength and tenacity.

Orlans – Their two-toned skin, prominent ears, and hirsute bodies all in the smallest size of Kith make them stand out in Eora.

Aumaua – Towering, powerfully built, and physically imposing.

With all five of the Eoran kith species now available, players have more ways than ever to define who their envoy is as they decide the fate of the Living Lands. The new species are available for selection at character creation, but for those who are currently in the middle of an adventure and are looking for a change, a mirror has been added to the Party Camp that allows players to change their appearance, including species, at any time!

Not only do the different species change how you look, but the team has also added in stat bonuses for all species adding another layer to character creation.

Humans

+1 Might

+1 Resolve

Elves

+1 Dexterity

+1 Perception

Aumaua

+2 Might

Dwarves

+1 Might

+1 Constitution

Orlans

+1 Perception

+1 Resolve

To team up with species specific stat boosts, we have also added a stat boost that comes along with your background choice, adding more to your build variety.

Arcane Scholar - +2 to Intellect

Court Augur - +2 to Resolve

Noble Scion - +2 to Perception

Vanguard Scout - +2 to Dexterity

War Hero - +2 to Constitution

Return to the Living Lands Again and Again

New Game Plus is now available after completing the main story. This mode is designed to reward mastery, experimentation, and making the all-powerful build.

When starting a New Game Plus save, players will bring along with them:

All unlocked abilities (with the exception of godlike abilities which are gained through story progression/world exploration)

All spent attribute points

All unique weapons and armors (but they are reset to level 1)

All unlocked enchantments remain

All unique gloves and boots

All necklaces, all rings, and all trinkets

<del>Any equipped Common Weapons or Armor items are kept (but they are reset to level 1)</del>

EDIT: The above detail was incorrect, and all uncommon weapons and armor are removed at the start of New Game Plus. This is to provide players a consistent experience regardless of what items they had in their inventory when they ended the game.

The following are removed from the player at the start of a New Game Plus:

All common weapons and armor that aren’t equipped

Companions must be picked up via story progression

Companions keep their talent points and start at level 1

All resources that had been collected

Gold

Upgrade materials

Enchanting materials

Food ingredients

All consumables that had been collected

All potions

All food

All quest items

All god totems/trinkets

Fast travel points/fog of war

The aforementioned godlike abilities

To ensure challenge scales alongside player power:

Enemy stats are increased across the board

Enemies now have a chance to have modifiers applied to them

Elemental Modifiers

Fire: Immune to Fire damage and accumulation. Attacks also now deal Fire damage

Frost: Immune to Frost damage and accumulation. Attacks also now deal Frost damage

Shock: Immune to Shock damage and accumulation. Attacks also now deal Shock damage

Poison: Immune to Poison damage and accumulation. Attacks also now deal Poison damage

Bleed: Immune to Bleed damage and accumulation. Attacks also now deal Bleed damage

Physical Modifiers

Haste: Increased movement speed, attack speed, and lowered cooldown timings

Glass Cannon: Increased damage dealt and damage received

Colossal: Increased maximum health

Life Steal: Attacks restore the enemy’s health by a percentage of the damage dealt

Crippled: Reduced movement speed and attack speed

Sturdy: Increased stability making it harder for them to be stunned

Natural Immunity: Immune to all status accumulations

Forceful: Increased impact on attacks

Vindictive: Increased damage dealt based on the amount of health lost

Attribute stat cap rises from 15 to 30

An important note for those who have already completed Avowed: Since New Game Plus is being added post release and the game was not initially designed with it in mind, a completion save will be necessary in order to take advantage of the mode. You will need to load a point of no return save or later and beat the game to make a proper New Game Plus save.

Your Game, Your Way

For players who want even finer control, Avowed now includes custom difficulty modifiers, allowing you to tune the game’s systems to your preferred experience. These new options are found by scrolling down through the “Game” tab of the settings menu.

Adjust player:

Damage dealt

Health, stamina, and essence resources

Elemental status effect threshold

Health and essence regeneration rates

Potion and food restoration rates

Interrupt or knockdown ease

Second Wind cooldown time

Carry capacity

Parry window

Adjust enemy:

Damage output

Health pool

Stun, interrupt, or knockdown ease

Attack speed

Elemental status effect threshold

Aggro threshold

Adjust companion:

Damage dealt

Health max

Elemental status effect threshold

Aggro threshold

As well as general adjustments:

Merchant prices

Equipment upgrade material costs

Fall damage

Trap damage

Item quality damage reduction

Custom game options allow you to better play the game your way. These options can be changed and adjusted at any time during the game so be sure to mix and match all you’d like. Some also add in XP modifiers to boost your gains further.

Important note: While changing these options will not negate most achievements that you may be hunting down, they will invalidate a Path of the Damned achievement. That achievement must be done without use of the custom game options.

New Weapon Type: Quarterstaff

A brand new weapon type is joining the arsenal with the quarterstaff. Designed with the archmage fantasy in mind, the quarterstaff is a new bludgeoning weapon that comes complete with wand style stun finishers. Unleash brutal physical combos along with a fury of spells that would make even Concelhaut jealous.

Photo Mode and Quality-of-Life Enhancements

While far from completing everything that is coming in the anniversary update, there are a few more notable callouts:

Photo Mode – Capture your envoy, companions, and the Living Lands from any angle and share your journey

Improved lighting and visual polish throughout

The ability to skip previously unskippable conversations with a certain god

For those who are making their return to Avowed to check out the anniversary update, welcome back. If this is your first time in the Living Lands, you are about to enter a world of wonderous flora and fauna, exceptional exploration, and satisfying combat.

This is just a touch of what is in the update as the full patch notes go into more detail.

Hello, Envoys!

If you’ve been following along with our updates for Avowed
you would know that according to our road map, we said we would have an update coming this fall. You would also know that update would bring New Game Plus, Photo Mode, a new weapon type and a few other features.

If you’ve checked out a calendar you may have also noticed that fall is quickly running out.

To break the bad news first, Avowed will not be receiving a fall update. With that out of the way, the good news: instead of a fall update, we will be releasing an update around the anniversary of the game’s release next February that will bring everything that was scheduled for the fall update as well as some more features to make it the biggest update for the game yet.

What we’ll be bringing to the Living Lands in the anniversary update is something we hope will surprise our players. So, stay tuned and keep an eye on our channels as we get into the new year for news about what is still to come in Avowed.
